Saturday Injury Updates and Impacts to Skill Positions

  • Cincinnati Bengals: Cincy will be without Tee Higgins, while Jamar Chase is questionable after participating in a limited role in practice on Thursday and Friday.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: CB’s Jamel Dean (concussion) and Carlton Davis (toe) are both listed as questionable – Davis was limited in practice on Friday, while Dean was a full participant.
  • Green Bay Packers: GB’s best CB Jaire Alexander is doubtful, which could provide tailwinds to Dionte Johnson, who is averaging 6.7 targets, 9.7 receptions and 85 receiving YPG since returning from injury.

Player Matchup Dashboard: Passing Yards per Game

Best QB Matchups

Jared Goff (O272.5 passing yards, DKNG) will be facing a Chargers secondary that ranks 32nd in the league in passing YPG (313.5 YPG) allowed, 29th in YPA and 30th in passes of 10+ yards. Top tier QB’s in 2023 that include Tua Tagovailoa (28-45, 466 yards, 3 TD’s, 1 INT), Dak Prescott (21-30, 272 yards, 1 TD), Pat Mahomes (32-42, 424 yards, 4 TD’s, 1 INT) and Kirk Cousins (32-50, 367 yards, 3 TD’s, 1 INT) have torched this secondary in 2023. Goff is averaging 303 passing YPG over his L3 games and has cleared this number in each matchup in that stretch.

Will Levis (O222.5 passing yards, FD) has cleared this number in his two career NFL starts against above average defenses in Atlanta and Pittsburgh, and now has an excellent matchup against a TB secondary that ranks 31st in passing YPG allowed, YPA and passes of 10+ yards allowed. Opposing QB’s have cleared this number in five of the L6 weeks against this Bucs’ secondary and are averaging 300 passing YPG and a 69% completion percentage in that stretch.

Worst QB Matchups

Lamar Jackson (O/U 204.5 passing yards, DKNG) faces a Browns secondary in Week 10 that ranks 1st in passing YPG allowed, 4th in YPA and 1st in passes of 10+ yards. Lamar threw for just 186 yards on 15-19 passing with 2 TD’s against Cleveland’s high powered defense in Week 4. Gardner Minshew and Geno Smith have had some success against this defense in recent weeks, but other QB’s in 2023 including Joe Burrow (14-31, 82 yards), Ryan Tannehill (13-25, 104 yards), Brock Purdy (12-27, 125 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and Clayton Tune (11-20, 58 yards, 2 INT’s) have struggled heavily.

Player Matchup Dashboard: Rushing YPG

Best RB Matchups

Breece Hall (O/U 65.5 rushing yards, FD) has a great matchup against a Raiders’ running defense that ranks 31st in rushing YPG, 28th in YPC and 32nd in runs of 10+ yards just allowed D’Onta Foreman (16 carries, 89 yards, 2 TDs) and Darrynton Evans (14 carries, 48 yards) to run free in Week 7, Jahmyr Gibbs (26 carries, 152 yards, 1 TD) to do the same in Week 8 and Saquon Barkley (16 carries, 90 yards) to provide the only piece of effective offense the Giants could generate in Week 9. Hall has been streaky all season, but took 22 carries for 177 yards in Week 6 against a Denver defense that ranks 32nd in rushing YPG and YPC and 28th in runs of 10+ yards.

James Cook (O/ U 55.5 receiving yards, DKNG) faces a Denver rushing defense that as we just mentioned ranks 32nd in rushing YPG and YPC and 28th in runs of 10+ yards. His best games of the season came back in Weeks 2 and 3 against Washington and LV, but he has cleared this number in three of the L4 weeks with an excellent matchup against a Broncos’ run defense that allowed AJ Dillon (15 carries, 61 yards) and Aaron Jones (8 carries, 35 yards) to lead a GB rushing attack that combined for 137 yards of total rushing in Week 8. KC did not focus on establishing their run game against Denver in two of the L3 weeks as they have Pat Mahomes at QB, but Khalil Herbert (18 carries, 103 yards), breece Hall (22 carries, 177 yards, 1 TD), De’Von Achane (18 carries, 203 yards, 2 TDs), Raheem Mostert (13 carries, 82 yards, 3 TDs) and Brian Robinson (18 carries, 87 yards, 2 TDs) have all had significant success against this defense. Winds of 12+ MPH are in the forecast are in Buffalo on MNF, which could favor the run game if the forecast deteriorates.

Worst RB Matchups

Christian McCaffrey (O/U 65.5 rushing yards, FD) will face the Jags’ run defense that ranks 3rd in rushing YPG allowed (80 per game) and YPC (3.7) and 7th in runs of 10+ yards allowed. McCaffrey and the 49ers are off a bye, but the Jags most recently held Jaylen Warren (5 carries, 19 yards) and Najee Harris (7 carries, 13 yards) to a total of 13 on the ground. McCaffrey is averaging just 3.3 YPC over the L4 games and has not cleared this number since SF faced ARI in Week 4.

Travis Etienne (O/U 65.5 rushing yards, FD) will face a 49ers’ run defense on the opposite side of this matchup that ranks 5th in rushing YPG allowed and 9th in runs of 10+ yards. SF will be fresh off a bye, while Etienne has failed to clear this number in three of the L5 weeks, specifically against the Saints (26th in YPC allowed), Colts (24th in rushing YPG allowed) and Falcons (14th in rushing YPG allowed). Etienne gets involved in the Jags’ passing game but could have trouble getting things going against one of the top run defenses in the league.

Player Matchup Dashboard: Receiving YPG

Best WR Matchups

Amon-Ra St. Brown (O83.5 receiving yards, DKNG) faces a Chargers secondary that ranks 32nd in the league in passing YPG (313.5 YPG) allowed, 29th in YPA and 30th in passes of 10+ yards. We highlighted that Jared Goff has an opportunity to light up this secondary as many other elite passers have in 2023, and if he does so in Week 10, ARSB will likely play a significant role – he has cleared 100 receiving yards in 5 of the L6 games, a stretch in which he is averaging 8.5 receptions per game, 11.5 targets per game and 99 YPG.

DeAndre Hopkins (O62.5 receiving yards, DKNG) has an excellent matchup against a Tampa secondary that ranks 31st in passing YPG allowed, YPA and passes of 10+ yards. Hopkins caught 4 balls for 128 yards and 3 TD’s in Will Levis’ debut and another 4 balls for 60 yards last week against PIT where he was targeted 11 times. Tennessee’s passing offense does not grade well on paper, but Levis is averaging 250 passing YPG in his first two starts and has an excellent matchup with a TB secondary that’s been extremely suspect this season. If Levis continues to push the ball down the field, he’ll likely be targeting Hopkins.

Dalton Kincaid (O52.5 receiving yards, DKNG) has increasingly become a target in the Bills’ passing attack over the L3 weeks in a stretch where he has cleared this number each week and is averaging 7.7 receptions, 8.7 targets and 74 receiving YPG. He is facing a Denver secondary that ranks 28th in passing YPG allowed, 32nd in YPA and 23rd in passes of 10+ yards allowed and also struggles to defend the TE, ranking 32nd in TE receiving yards allowed at 71.5. Cole Kmet caught 7 balls for 85 yards and 2 TD’s against this defense, while Travis Kelce caught 9 balls for 124 yards in KC’s first meeting with Denver and 6 balls for 58 yards in their second.
